About me
Hi! I’m James, welcome to my website. Here I will write a few things about myself you might find interesting.
Work
I work as a postdoctoral researcher at NTNU and am funded by an individual Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action, in addition to receiving funding from NTNU for teaching.
Research interests
I am a mathematican with a focus on numerical analysis and simulations. I like to built the underlying structure of a problem into my models whenever possible. My general areas of interest include:
- Finite element methods
- Scientific machine learning
- Iterative solvers (including geometric multigrid)
- Adaptive algorithms
I am currently working on:
- Coupling neural networks and finite element models
- Developing new finite element discretisations
- Developing our understanding of machine learning algorithms
- Simulating phase transitions in smectic-C liquid crystals
- Accelerating linear solvers
Personal interests
I’m happy when I’m active, I like to ski in the winter, hike in the summer and jog year round. I also enjoy (amateur) wildlife and landscape photography.
